The porcini mushroom is a popular and delicious wild mushroom. It is consumed fresh, most commonly dried, marinated, salted, or frozen. The caps are large and fleshy. Mature specimens measure 7–30 cm in diameter, are typically reddish-brown, and darken in color with age. The stem is 8–25 cm high and up to 7 cm thick.

Cultivation Guidelines: Planting should occur from mid-April to October. The ideal mycelium planting site should feature deciduous trees, preferably oaks and beeches, although conifers are also suitable. Young trees are preferred for optimal growth. It is recommended to use a universal substrate or compost with a high peat layer for planting.

Cultivation and Care:

  1. Dig three holes around the tree trunk, each 30–40 cm in diameter and 15 cm deep. Position the holes 0.5–5 m from the tree trunk (approximately 10 times the trunk’s diameter).
  2. Fill the holes halfway with the prepared soil, then place one-third of the mushroom mycelium from each packet into each hole. Fill the holes with soil to ground level and compact it firmly.
  3. Water the planting area thoroughly (using approximately 1 bucket of water around each hole).
  4. Cover with leaves, pine needles, straw, or branches (e.g., from the forest).
  5. Promote mushroom development with a sugar solution (10 g sugar per 10 liters of water).
  6. If there is insufficient rainfall during mushroom germination, it is advisable to regularly moisten the soil.

Germination: Under favorable conditions, mushrooms may appear in the first or second year after planting. The mycelium remains effective for 3–4 years.

Yield: Several to several dozen mushrooms can be harvested per tree annually.

Packaging: Biological spore powder for sowing – 10 g. Probability of fruiting 85–87%.

Note: Amateur cultivation of mycorrhizal (mycorrhiza – symbiosis of tree roots with fungi) wild mushrooms does not guarantee results, as mushroom growth significantly depends on weather conditions and various other factors. To cultivate them, it is necessary to create conditions as close to natural as possible and use the mushroom mycelium according to the instructions. With suitable weather conditions, positive results can be enjoyed relatively quickly.
