Spring brings more than just beautiful blossoms to the garden; it also awakens pests. One of the most significant threats to apple trees is the codling moth (commonly known as the apple worm), which can ruin your entire harvest.

What is a pheromone trap and how does it work?

A pheromone trap, or scent trap, is an effective and eco-friendly way to reduce the codling moth population. It uses a specific scent to attract male moths, which then become stuck to the adhesive strip inside the trap. This reduces the number of fertilized female moths and, consequently, the amount of damaged apples.

In our online store, you will find species-specific pheromone traps for various pests, including the codling moth, plum fruit moth, and apple ermine moth. Each trap is designed to catch a specific pest.

Package includes: 1 plastic trap, 2 pheromone capsules, 2 adhesive liners, 2 fasteners.

Cydia pomonella

  • After spraying, monitoring of codling moth flight should continue; if the number of moths caught in the trap rises above the control threshold again (i.e., more than 5 moths per week), a second spraying should be carried out.
  • The timing for this is chosen according to the instructions of the insecticide used (usually 2–3 weeks after the first spraying).
  • By using a larger number of traps, you can reduce the population through mass trapping of codling moths.

Instructions for Use

  • 1 trap per apple tree.
  • Assemble the small house from the cardboard provided in the package.
  • Place the adhesive strip at the bottom of the house. Adhesive strips should be replaced at least every four weeks, and their stickiness should be checked regularly.
  • Place the scent capsule on the adhesive strip. This small rubbery component emits a scent irresistible to male codling moths, luring them into the trap.
  • Secure the house to an apple tree branch using the provided fasteners.
  • The best locations are on the south or west side of the tree, where the moths primarily fly.
  • Try to avoid direct sunlight, which can dry out the adhesive excessively, though this is not always possible.
  • Ensure that the trap remains as level as possible on the branch.
