Textile mulch is a specially developed lightweight ground cover material for use in gardening and landscaping. The polypropylene material is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and compounds found in the soil. The fabric prevents weed growth and also accelerates the rooting of young plants by keeping the soil moist and warm. Textile mulch can also be used to separate different soil layers, such as between drainage and substrate in a flower bed. In a planting area covered with textile mulch, the soil remains looser than in a bed covered with a weed barrier or geotextile. The rough surface of the textile mulch hinders slugs and snails from moving between plants. Depending on the application, it lasts 5-6 years.

Brown textile mulch measuring 1.6 x 50 meters (total area 80 m², density 80 g/m²) is a ground cover material specifically developed for gardening and landscaping needs. Produced from high-quality polypropylene, the fabric is resistant to both the sun’s ultraviolet radiation and naturally occurring chemical compounds in the soil. Its primary purpose is to effectively prevent weed growth, saving time and effort that would otherwise be spent on continuous weeding.

In addition to weed control, the material creates a favorable microclimate for plants. The textile mulch reduces moisture evaporation from the soil and keeps the soil warm, which in turn accelerates the rooting of young seedlings. Unlike very dense woven weed barriers or strong geotextiles, this fabric ensures better air exchange – as a result, the soil in the planting area remains looser and more biodiverse. A unique feature of the fabric is its rougher surface, which acts as a mechanical barrier, making it uncomfortable for slugs and snails to move between plants. If necessary, the mulch can also be used as a soil layer separator, for example, between a drainage layer and nutrient substrate in a flower bed. With proper installation and covering, the material’s lifespan is 5–6 years, depending on the application.

Usage and Cultivation Instructions:

  1. Clean and level the planting area, removing sharp stones, branches, and larger weed roots.

  2. Unroll the fabric onto the prepared soil so that it is taut but not stretched.

  3. Cut planting holes into the fabric with a sharp knife or scissors (X-shaped cuts are most convenient).

  4. Secure the edges and seams of the fabric properly with special fastening pins or plastic nails; if necessary, you can also lightly bury the edges in the soil.

  5. In landscaping and ornamental gardens, cover the textile mulch with bark chips, mulch, or decorative gravel to achieve an aesthetic result and extend UV protection.

Tips and recommendations:

  • When cutting X-shaped planting holes, fold the fabric corners inward under the soil, do not cut them off. This prevents fraying of the edges and stops weeds from growing directly through the plant’s base.

  • The brown fabric is an ideal choice specifically for use under pine bark mulch, as it blends with the environment – even if birds or wind scatter the mulch slightly, the underlying fabric will not be an eyesore.

  • If using sharper decorative gravel as a cover, place the stones carefully on the fabric to avoid puncturing the material during installation.
