Rock crab is a popular and tasty wild mushroom. It is consumed fresh, most commonly dried, pickled, salted or frozen. The heads are large and fleshy. Mature specimens are 7-30 cm in diameter, usually reddish-brown, darkening in colour as they age. The foot is 8-25 cm high and up to 7 cm thick.

Growing tips: planting should take place between mid-April and October. The ideal mycelium planting site should be deciduous, preferably oak and beech, although conifers are also suitable. Young trees are preferable for optimum growth. A universal substrate or compost with a high peat layer is recommended for planting.

Cultivation and maintenance:

  1. Dig three holes around the tree trunk, each 30-40 cm in diameter and 15 cm deep. Place the holes between 0.5 and 5 m from the tree trunk (about 10 times the diameter of the trunk).
  2. Half fill the holes with the prepared soil and then place a third of a mushroom cap from each packet into each hole. Fill the holes to the surface with the soil and firmly compact it.
  3. Water the planting area thoroughly (using about 1 bucket of water around each hole).
  4. Cover with leaves, pine cones, straw or twigs (e.g. from the forest).
  5. Encourage the growth of fungi by using a sugar solution (10 g sugar per 10 litres of water).
  6. If there is not enough rainfall when the mushrooms germinate, it is advisable to water the soil regularly.

Germination: in favourable conditions, mushrooms may appear in the first or second year after planting. The mycelium is effective for 3-4 years.

Yield: several to several dozen mushrooms can be harvested per tree per year.

Packaging: biological pre-powder for sowing – 10 g. Fertility probability 85-87%.

Note. Hobby cultivation of mycorrhizal fungi (mycorrhizal symbiosis of tree roots with fungi) does not guarantee results, as fungal growth is highly dependent on weather conditions and various other factors. To cultivate them, it is necessary to create conditions as close as possible to nature and to use the mycelium according to the instructions. Under suitable weather conditions, positive results can be enjoyed relatively quickly.
