This set of two covers (measuring 0.8 × 1.2 meters) has been specifically designed for Estonia’s variable winter conditions to protect frost-sensitive plants from harsh weather. This practical winter plant cover is an indispensable aid for shielding rose bushes, evergreen rhododendrons, young conifers, as well as various perennials, climbing plants, and herbs.

The primary function of the cover is twofold: in mid-winter, it provides effective insulation against icy winds and severe sub-zero temperatures. In early spring, when the sun begins to warm intensely but the ground is still deeply frozen, the fabric protects the canopy of evergreen plants from dangerous sunburn (physiological drought). The high-quality, breathable material ensures optimal air circulation beneath the cover. This is an extremely important feature, as stagnant air and excessive moisture promote the spread of fungal diseases and mold on shaded plants.

Usage and Cultivation Instructions:

  1. Wait for the appropriate time to cover: do not install the fabric too early in the fall. Wait until temperatures are consistently cool and the ground is lightly frozen (permanent frost).

  2. For shrubs with delicate or sprawling branches (e.g., roses and larger perennials), first install a wooden or metal support frame. This prevents branches from breaking under heavy snow.

  3. Carefully pull the winter plant cover over the plant or support frame and firmly secure the bottom edge to the ground (e.g., using stones, soil, or anchoring stakes).

  4. In spring, remove the cover only when the soil around the plant has completely thawed.

  5. After use, shake the fabric clean, allow it to dry thoroughly, and pack it away – this will ensure the material lasts safely until the next winter.

Tips and recommendations:

  • Always remove the winter plant cover in spring on a cloudy day or during evening hours. This allows the plant to gradually adapt to light, preventing sudden sun shock.

  • If a thick layer of wet snow accumulates on the cover during winter, carefully brush it off periodically to reduce the load on the plant and support frame.

  • For more compact perennials, you may add dry peat moss or tree leaves around the plant’s root collar before installing the cover, creating a double layer of thermal insulation against harsh frost.
