A compact 2 kg bag of local eco-friendly limestone flour is a practical choice for the hobby gardener for improving the soil of smaller flowerbeds, greenhouse boxes, or balcony planters. This Estonian-produced garden lime is designed to neutralize overly acidic mineral soil and growing peat. If the soil is too acidic, plants cannot absorb nutrients from fertilizers – adding lime raises the soil pH and significantly improves nutrient solubility.
In addition to regulating acidity, the product enriches the soil with calcium and magnesium, which are the building blocks for strong plant cell walls and green foliage. When used on lawns, the calcium-rich environment effectively inhibits the spread of moss, helping grass blades take over once again. The small package is easy to dose and does not take up excessive space in the shed.
Instructions for use and cultivation: Liming can be performed from early spring until late autumn. The powder can be sprinkled directly onto the soil surface or lightly mixed into the soil.
-
Annual maintenance: Sow approximately 80 g / 1 m² (8 kg / 100 m²) onto the soil surface.
-
When planting or establishing a bed: Mix 300–800 g / 1 m² into the soil.
-
Peat neutralization: To make 1 m³ of acidic sphagnum peat suitable for plants, approximately 6 kg of lime is required.
Tips and recommendations:
-
For best results, sprinkle the limestone flour directly onto melting snow in early spring – the meltwater carries the substances evenly and deep into the soil.
-
Do not use lime in beds for plants that prefer acidic soil (e.g., rhododendrons, blueberries, hydrangeas, conifers).
