This 20 kg package of Turfline sport lawn seed mix is specifically designed for areas that experience heavy daily use. Whether it is a ball game area in a home garden, an active play area for children, or an intensive running path for pets, this mix, consisting of narrow-leaved species, forms a dense and highly wear-resistant lawn carpet. A large 20 kg bag is sufficient for sowing approximately 600 m² (application rate 1 kg = 30 m²).
One of the main strengths of this mix is the ability of the selected plants to form tillers. This characteristic ensures that the turf recovers independently and quickly from foot traffic damage and thinning, maintaining a uniform and green appearance even after intensive use. Additionally, it is a highly adaptable composition that grows successfully and maintains its density in both full sun and shadier parts of the garden.
Usage and Cultivation Instructions:
-
Sowing Time: The best time to establish a new lawn is in spring (May) or late summer to early autumn (August to early September), when the soil has sufficient natural moisture for seed germination and temperatures are favorable.
-
Growing Location: Universal – suitable for both full sun and partial shade.
-
Soil Preparation: Dig or rototill the soil, remove weed roots and stones. Carefully level the soil and lightly roll the surface before sowing to prevent uneven settling later.
-
Sowing and Application Rate: Sow by broadcast sowing, preferably using the cross-sowing method (divide seeds in half: sow the first half lengthwise and the second half across the area). The application rate is approximately 30–35 g/m² (1 kg = 30 m²).
-
Sowing Depth: Lightly rake the seeds 0.5–1 cm deep into the soil and compact the surface with a lawn roller to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
-
Watering: Keep the sown area continuously and evenly moist during the germination period (approximately 2–3 weeks). Drying out during the germination phase can severely damage emergence.
Tips and recommendations:
-
To ensure the lawn maintains its strong foot-traffic resistance and rapid recovery ability, fertilize it regularly with a nitrogen-rich lawn fertilizer during the active growing season. In autumn, always use a nitrogen-free PK autumn fertilizer to increase the plants’ winter hardiness.
-
Perform the first mowing only when the young grass plants have grown to 8–10 cm in length, leaving a mowing height of approximately 4–5 cm. This allows the roots to develop stronger.
-
In high-traffic areas, it is advisable to aerate the lawn every spring. This reduces soil compaction, improves oxygen supply to the roots, and helps water infiltrate the soil more effectively.
