Urban Garden 45 mm diameter coconut pellets (10 pcs per pack) are a clean and practical solution for germinating seeds and rooting young cuttings. Coconut fiber provides an optimal balance of air and moisture, creating an ideal environment for strong root system development. This material is naturally pathogen- and weed-free and enriched with minerals.
Beneficial Trichoderma fungi have been added to these coconut pellets. This natural fungus effectively inhibits the development of disease-causing fungi and pathogens (such as those causing damping-off), protecting delicate plants during their most vulnerable growth phase.
The primary value of coconut pellets lies in preserving the plant’s root system. Since the young plant is later transplanted into the greenhouse, garden bed, or a larger pot along with the coconut pellet, the fragile root system remains completely intact. This makes the product indispensable for crops that do not tolerate transplanting and pricking out well (such as cucumbers, cucurbits, watermelons, and melons).
Usage and Cultivation Instructions:
-
Place the required amount of coconut pellets on a waterproof tray (e.g., a seed tray) and add warm water.
-
Allow the pellets to expand. Once they have reached their full height (approximately 2.5–3.8 cm), pour off any excess water from the tray.
-
Sow a seed into the indentation at the top of the pellet or place a rooting cutting there.
-
Assess the need for watering by the color of the pellet: add water when the coconut fiber turns light brown on the surface.
-
Harden off the plants before planting outdoors: take them outside to a shaded spot for twenty minutes to a couple of hours (bring them indoors for the night) and increase the time, gradually acclimating them to sunlight and wind.
-
When planting, make a hole in the soil deep enough so that the entire pellet is covered with soil. Press the soil down gently and water thoroughly.
Tips and recommendations:
-
Be sure to use warm water to expand the pellets – this speeds up the expansion process of the coconut fiber and warms the substrate, which promotes faster seed germination.
-
To avoid excess moisture and root suffocation, do not keep the pellets constantly soaking in water. Water only when the pellet has become lighter in color and feels lighter to the touch.
-
To germinate seeds with high moisture requirements, cover the tray of pellets with a transparent lid or plastic wrap, creating a mini-greenhouse effect. Remove the cover immediately upon emergence.
