Part of the DLF Masterline series, Sportmaster is a premium fine-leaved grass seed mix specifically bred for high-traffic areas. It is the primary choice for establishing soccer and sports fields, but it is also excellent for home gardens where children or large pets are active on the lawn daily.
The strength of the mix lies in its carefully balanced composition: 50% various Kentucky bluegrass varieties, 25% red fescue, and 25% perennial ryegrass. Kentucky bluegrass and red fescue develop a strong underground rhizome network and active lateral shoots. This means the turf can independently and quickly recover from damage and gaps caused by intensive trampling. Perennial ryegrass ensures rapid germination. The mix adapts well to different light conditions, growing successfully in both full sun and shadier environments.
As this is a fast-growing and actively regenerating mix, a higher maintenance requirement must be considered—the lawn requires regular watering and systematic fertilization to maintain its density.
Usage and Cultivation Instructions:
-
Sowing time: In spring (May) or late summer to early autumn (August–early September), when the soil has the natural moisture necessary for germination.
-
Application rate: Approximately 30–40 g/m². A 10 kg package is sufficient to cover an area of about 250–330 m².
-
Soil preparation: Clear the area of old vegetation, stones, and weeds. Loosen, level, and lightly roll the soil surface before sowing.
-
Sowing: Divide the seed quantity in half and perform cross-sowing (one part lengthwise, the other crosswise). Gently rake the seeds to a depth of 0.5–1 cm into the soil and compact the surface with a lawn roller.
-
Watering: Keep the area constantly and evenly moist during germination (up to 3 weeks). Seedlings that dry out will perish quickly.
Tips and recommendations:
-
To ensure the lawn maintains its exceptional wear resistance and recovery capacity, feed it regularly with a nitrogen-rich lawn fertilizer during the active growing season. To increase winter hardiness, use a nitrogen-free PK fertilizer in the fall.
-
In high-traffic areas, soil tends to become heavily compacted. Aerate the lawn every spring or fall so the root system receives enough oxygen and water infiltrates the soil better.
-
Perform the first mowing gently only when the young plants are 8–10 cm tall, leaving the grass at a height of 4–5 cm.
